Why Women Get To Pay Less For Their Car Insurance

By Nelson

If you have ever asked yourself why women usually get lower auto insurance rates than men, the main reason is women drivers, as a whole, aren't involved in as many claims as their male counterparts. Relying on statistics alone, women seem to be safer drivers; perhaps it is because they drive slower and are more cautious than men; often driving more modest vehicles based on excellent safety features.

It is for this reason that car insurance providers are happy to give policies to women than men as they know that there is less of a chance they will make an insurance claim.

Men are also more likely to make larger claims on their insurance and even though the risks faced by women drivers are the same, their claims are almost always lower. That is why on an average women's car insurance premiums tend to be 30 percent lower than that of the male counterparts having same demographic profile.

Because it is a known fact that women drivers generally drive within the speed limits, any accidents they do have are of a more minor nature which means repairs do not cost as much thereby keeping premiums down.

Men on the other hand are more likely to drive beyond the speed limit and when an accident occurs it causes more damage to both vehicles involved meaning insurance providers are at greater risk financially. A lady is regarded to be a better risk as soon as they start driving, even at an early age and there are many premium discounts available for women drivers.

In view of this, a number of specialist car insurers will only sell their auto insurance plans to females with no men allowed, not even husbands. Many of these companies believe that the risk the male driver poses, even though he is a policy holder's partner is not worth the additional cost that can be incurred if he has an accident.

These companies may exist with a lower profit margin than most large insurers but they are able to attract many customers to make up for the shortfall in individual premium shortfalls.

It is now possible for women to obtain car insurance that includes fees for legal representation as well to help claim for costs on a third party claim where no-one was at fault. Further discounts can be made when a car is parked in a garage and if the person takes advanced driving lessons in addition to a clean license.

One last point to consider is the size of the insurer, specialist women only insurance companies are usually smaller and may not be able to compete with a general insurance company that is much larger. Whilst it may at first seem like a good idea to use a specialist insurer, it is sensible to check out the quotes from other insurers before you commit to anything.
