Motorcycle Helmet Face Shield for Comfort

By Frank Medley

There is some debate in the riding community about what makes for a more comfortable ride, a motorcycle helmet face shield, or riding with an open face helmet? What is the right answer?

Most riders believe that wearing a motorcycle helmet face shield will help to protect you best in an accident. In an event when you do crash, your face will be protected from serious injury by the shield.

A motorcycle helmet face shield protects you while you're riding as well. Any rocks or other debris are deflected by the shield, instead of hitting your face. It will also stop weather from hitting your face.

It is easy to make sure that your shield meets basic safety requirements. Any Snell tested helmet will have a face shield that meets their standards. All helmets should also have their certifications molded into the face shield.

You should look for a few different things when buying a helmet with a face shield. It should form a tight seal with the helmet when it is lowered. It should also stay locked when it is raised.

You should always try on your motorcycle helmet face shield before you buy it. If you notice any straight lines becoming curved, that face shield is giving you optical distortion, and you shouldn't buy it.

A high quality face shield can be quite expensive, but they will also offer you excellent protection. Almost all will be scratch resistant, and will offer UV protection, a great added benefit.

Any motorcycle helmet face shield will be safer for you and will give you a more comfortable ride. The cost can be prohibitive for some, but the benefits are worth the expense in most cases.
